General information:

Office Hours are usually Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. – 5:00p.m.
The Consulate reserves the right not to issue next-day visas if it is not urged by the date of entry into Russia. If you apply for a visa valid for more than 3 months you must submit HIV Test (AIDS) Certificate.If you apply by mail, you should enclose a return envelope or prepaid airbill of the mail you choose to send the visa back to you. If you want to extend your visa you should apply to the local visa and registration office (OVIR) in the area of your residence in Russia.
In case of emergency (unexpected illness, death of relatives) visas can be obtained upon submitting a certified cable from a doctor of a Russian clinic or a copy of death certificate.

If you are going to Tadjikistan your invitation must be confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of this Republic. Russian Consulates do not issue visas to any other Republic of CIS. If you are going to Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Turkmenistan, Ukraine or Uzbekistan via Russia you should get a transit visa. Armenian, Belorussian, Kazakh and Kyrgyz visas are valid for transit via Russia. Transit visas are valid for no longer than 72 hours. The Consulate reserves the right not to issue next day visas unless urged by the date of entry into Russia.

When applying for visas please observe the following requirements. The copy of the passport page should be trimmed to the size of the original and stapled to the upper-left corner of the application form. Two pictures should be stapled to the copy of the passport page and one – to the specially marked place at the upper-right corner of the application form.
Paperwork submitted in the manner different from the above will not be accepted.

After you receive your visa please check it for mistakes (passport number, date of birth, term of validity) and, if necessary, return it to the Consulate for corrections. The Consulate will not be responsible for any mistakes in the visas, which were not brought to its attention prior to departure from the USA. If you wish to extend your visa, you should get a new invitation from the same organization that issued the previous invitation and submit it with the visa to the Consulate. Processing times, requirements and fees are subject to change without notice.
